Celebrating a Whole New Matter
Technion held a special symposium in January 2011 to honor Distinguished Prof. Dan Shechtman on his 70th birthday. Prof. Shechtman revolutionized how we see our world when in 1982 he introduced a whole new class of matter - quasicrystals.
Social Media: How we do it...
With an astronomical rise in social media use world-wide, Technion experts are refining the potential of future applications.
Prof. Oded Shmueli and Royi Ronen have developed a novel concept: a generic social protocol, that can upgrade data management within a portal’s social networks.
Cancer Biomarkers in the Blood
Prof. Arie Admon of the Faculty of Biology and his team have devised a method that combines immunoaffinity purification, microcapillary chromatography, and mass spectrometry to separate enough protein biomarkers to effectively diagnose blood cancers, including leukemias and multiple myelomas.
“I envision it as a routine blood test, something rather simple,” Admon says. “But until it’s implemented in the clinic, there’s still a lot more work to do.”

Technion on NY Short List
The Technion’s outstanding international reputation was affirmed once again by the offer from New York City to help it develop a "world-class science and technology research institution" in America’s largest city.
The offer was made to a select group of American universities such as Columbia and Cornell, and to five non-U.S. institutions.

On the Cosmic Map
While Technion has put Israel on the global map of science and technology, Technion’s Asher Space Research Institute (ASRI) continues to put Israel on the cosmic map. As Israel’s only university-based space research institute, ASRI’s innovative projects in satellite technology, rocket propulsion and autonomous systems continue to attract world interest. Closer to home, ASRI is sponsoring SpaceTeamIL - the dynamic team that won a place in the prestigious Google Lunar X Prize competition - through which they aim to land the Israeli flag on the moon by 2013.
